BHAKTIVEDANTA HOSPITAL PROVIDES FREE HOLISTIC HEALTHCARE TO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS February 13, 2001 -- Mumbai, India - Bhaktivedanta Hospital, which provides holistic health care with equal emphasis on the needs of the body, mind and soul, continues to make a marked difference to the lives of those affected by the devastation of the Gujurat earthquake of 26 January 2001. A team of doctors, nurses, spiritual care counselors, and support workers tirelessly work on a regular ten-day rotation basis, providing holistic care to the inhabitants of Rahpar, a small town in the north of the Rann of Kutch and 140 villages in the surrounding area. It is in this hospital where staff from Bhaktivedanta Hospital are attending to severe spinal injuries, wounds, infections, fractures, lacerations to children, hypothermia, pneumonia and
other related injuries. Seriously ill and injured patients are being airlifted to Bhaktivedanta Hospital in Mumbai where a team of specialist consultants are on stand-by. Food for Life, the international food relief program of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Juhu, Mumbai is distributing on a daily basis 150 thousand hot sanctified vegetarian meals to the needy. This relief program has received international recognition for its efforts in the Balkans wars. All relief work is provided free of charge or is being sponsored by corporate businesses on behalf of Bhaktivedanta Hospital. ----------------- February 2, 2001 -- We have just visited our camp for prasadam distribution at Bhadreswar which is some 27 kms from Adipur. The whole area is quiet. Lots of dead bodies being burnt in heaps. Still removing bodies from debry at Anjar. Today we began serving more than 10,000 meals of Khichadi (rice and bean stew), puri (fried bread), and sabji (vegetable curry) at our camp, and surrounding villages and at Adipur. Most of these people have lost their homes or are poor and have no work for at least the next 2-3 months. Such people require to work on daily basis and hence are in desperate need right now. We now have a team of 25 to 30 volunteers from Baroda and Vidyanagar working in a place with constant fear of further tremors and cold weather. Report by Basughosh Das

Interview -- Interviewer: I think the first question is kind of basic, is why is everything always taped at all the...
Prabhupada: Because we have got so many branches, they want to hear me, my singing, my speech, therefore they record it and send it to different branches. We have got thirteen, fourteen branches: one in New York, one in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Boston, Montreal, Vancouver, London, Hamburg. We have got so many branches.
Interviewer: What are the basic beliefs of the Krsna religion?
Prabhupada: Krsna means God. So God, this word, does not explain the nomenclature of God. Now this Krsna is Sanskrit word, and it conveys the full meaning of God. Krsna means all-attractive. All-attractive means He is full of all opulences. In this world we are attracted by one who is very rich, we are attracted by one who is very famous, we are attracted by one who is very highly educated, we are attracted by someone who is very beautiful. Similarly, these are features of attraction. And when all these attractions are reposed in one place without any rivalry, He is God. That is the conception of God. So Krsna means all these six opulences in fullness together. That is the full definition of God.
Interviewer: What effect to the followers does chanting give? I heard from one that it transports them to a utopian type situation. I wondered if you could elaborate on that a little more.
Prabhupada: Which situation?
Interviewer: Utopian-like, where there is no harm, no..., all is good, and...
Prabhupada: Yes. Now, this our process is chanting. It is very innocent. If you sit down and chant with us, you have no loss, no harm, but there is great gain. You see? By chanting, you gradually cleanse your heart and you can realize what is God. That is the greatest gain. Human life is meant for knowing God. The animals, they cannot know, although the bodily demands of the animal and the human being are the same. The animals, they sleep; man also sleeps. Animal, they eat; man also eats. The animal, they are also afraid of some enemy; man is also afraid of some enemy. The animals, they mate with the opposite sex, and men also do that. But what is the special significance of man? He can understand about God, but the animal cannot. Therefore if a man does not take to this understanding, he is no better than animal. A man who has no God consciousness or Krsna consciousness, he is no better than animal because he has no other business than the four principles of bodily demands. So that is also prevalent in animal kingdom. Therefore this is a privilege for human being, to understand about God, and as such, in every human society there is some sort of religious principle. This religious principle means to understand God. Either you take it, Christianity or Judaism or Hinduism, every religion is trying to understand God according to their capacity. So without this understanding, means Krsna consciousness, human life is as good as animal life.
Interviewer: Do you believe that other religions have some truth to them because they all are...
Prabhupada: I have already told that religion means searching after God, every religion. The process may be different. The audience may be different. Just like in Christianity there is conception of God, "God created this world." So this is a fact. We also say. But we say in very lucid explanation from the Vedas. We don't stop, simply saying, "God created," but how created, how things developed, these descriptions are there in the Vedic literature. That is the difference. Otherwise there is no difference of opinion. The Christians accept God created this world; the Jewish religion, they also accept God created this world; the Muslims they also accept God created this world; we also accept God created this world. So "God is the supreme; God is great," that is accepted by everyone. But the only difference is that we give details so that modern mind, who are advanced in education and scientific knowledge, they can understand, whereas others, they cannot give in detail. Therefore they are deviating gradually because the modern, advanced, educated persons they want to know how God created this world, and that description is lacking. But we can give that. That is the difference. Otherwise the primary principle, to understand God--God is great; we are small, tiny; we are subordinate; we are maintained by God--this idea is everywhere.
Interviewer: Yes, well, what is your explanation of the creation of the world?
Prabhupada: That is a huge thing. That we have to see to the Srimad-Bhagavatam, that God expanded Himself first of all in Maha-Visnu, He lied down on the Causal Ocean. And while He was in sleeping mood, from His breathing, innumerable universes came into existence. Then each and every universe, Maha-Visnu entered. Then again He lied down there, and from Him the first creature, Brahma, generated. Then Brahma created other planets. First there was creation of sound. From the sound, the sky came into existence. From the sky, air came into existence. From air, fire came into existence. From fire, water came into existence, and from water, this land developed. In this way, there are very detailed description in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. So we have to take it that way.
Interviewer: Were you born in this country or were you born in...
Prabhupada: No. I was born in India, Calcutta. My birthplace is Calcutta.
Interviewer: When did you come to this country?
Prabhupada: I came here in September, 1965.
Interviewer: Did you come with the purpose of spreading Krsna consciousness?
Prabhupada: Yes. I am an ordained minister for preaching these missionary activities. So I came here in September, 1965. Then, for one year, I was traveling in many parts of your country. In the beginning I was in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, and then I went to Philadelphia. Then I came to New York. And in this way I was traveling, not very much. And in 1966, in July 1st, I started my class in New York at 26 Second Avenue. That is my first starting. Then the younger generation began to come to me, and they started the San Francisco branch, Montreal branch. In this way the institution is going. And we have sent our students to Europe also. They have already started one branch in London, one in Hamburg. And we have sent our students in Honolulu. They have started a branch there. So our program is to start several..., as many branches as possible to spread this Krsna consciousness movement. And it is very easy. We simply invite persons to come and chant with us. It doesn't matter what he is, what is his language, what is his religion. We don't take into account all these things. And this Hare Krsna is so easy to utter, that any man can utter. That we have experienced. Any part of the world, we chant Hare Krsna, and they can very easily imitate and chant. Even child, they also. So by chanting, he gradually becomes Krsna conscious. His heart becomes cleansed and he can understand what is science of Krsna, what is science of God. Then he automatically offers himself for initiation. Then we initiate him and guide him in different ways. But our students are strictly forbidden to have illicit sex life or meat-eating or intoxication or gambling. These four things are strictly forbidden for our students. And they take it seriously. We get our... In your country boys and girls, they live as friend. I don't allow that. If there is such friendship, I immediately ask them, if they become my student, I immediately ask them to be married. And this experiment has proved very successful. I got these young boys and girls married, and they are very happily living, and husband and wife, they are preaching. All my students in London-- there are six boys and girls--they were married by me, and they are doing very nicely. So the Krsna consciousness movement is very nice in everywhere, especially in this country. That is my opinion. And people will be benefited, especially the younger section who were feeling frustration in every respect, and they are now happy. It is practical. Just ask any one of my students how they are happy. You have seen in our temple how happily they are living and dancing from their face. Face is the index of mind. You will understand from their face how happy they are feeling. They are not smoking. They are not taking marijuana or are taking... No. This nonsense we don't allow. Simple food and chanting. That makes them happy. Simple thing.
Interviewer: I notice that most of your followers, at least in this temple, are young, like in the college age or in the teenage. Is it because Krsna doesn't attract the older generation, I mean, yourself excluded?
Prabhupada: No. Krsna attracts everyone. Just like magnetic stone attracts iron. But the iron is covered with too much muddy things--the magnetic force does not work. This younger generation, they are not too much dirty; therefore they are very easily attracted. You see? It is like a magnetic force. The same example, that magnetic force attracts iron. That is natural. But if the iron is too much rusty and covered with muddy things, then it does not act. So older generation means they are convinced in some way. They cannot accept any new thing. You see? They are in the last stage of life. Whatever they have understood, they cannot forget. But younger generation, they have got capacity to take new things. Just like nobody goes... No old man goes to school because they are unable to receive education. But younger generation, they go. So there is a age to receive. So this age is recipient. Therefore naturally--it is nice thing--they are receiving.
Interviewer: You spoke of initiation. What is that initiation?
Prabhupada: Initiation means formally acceptance of the line of activities in Krsna consciousness. Before that, before initiation, we invite everyone to come and sit down with us, chant, dance, take prasadam, hear philosophy. And if he understands, "Oh, this is very nice," then he offers himself to be initiated. Then we accept. Then we impose this restriction that "If you want to be initiated..." We get hundreds of letters by everyone who has attended our classes. Daily we are getting some married couples or boys and girls, but most of them are younger. My students are within thirties. The oldest student I have got at the present moment, he is twenty-eight years. No, Kirtanananda is about thirty years old. That's all. So, of course, I do not get any older people. That is nice, hopeful, because younger section, if they take it very seriously, then I have hopes that they will preach in future, even in my absence. And old people, if a man becomes too much accustomed to a certain limited habits, in old age it is very difficult to give it up unless one is extraordinarily intelligent.
Interviewer: What is the purpose of the robes and having your head shaved?
Prabhupada: That is not very difficult to understand. Just like you dress in a certain way, I dress in certain way. So we have got this dressing system in our Krsna consciousness movement, and this is taken from Vedic literature. A brahmacari should dress like that. And that is very economical. Our dress is saffron dress. It does not become dirty very quickly, and we... (break) This dress is not very important thing, but when one is initiated, he accepts the regulations which I give them. So it is not that if you do not come in that dress in our temple you will not understand our philosophy. That is not... We don't mean that. But it is convenient. But anyone who does not want to change this dress, that does not matter. We don't insist. These brahmacaris, they voluntarily change. Otherwise there are many students, just like we have got two, three students, they are working. They come just like ordinary American gentlemen. So there is no objection in that way. Dress is not very important thing.
Interviewer: Do you have a name that you call... are they called students? Like, would he be called a student or a...?
Devotee: Brahmacari.
Prabhupada: Brahmacari. We have got four divisions. Those who are not married, they are called brahmacaris. And those who are married, they are called grhasthas. And those who are retired, they are called vanaprasthas. And those who are renounced, they have no connection with anything worldly, they are called sannyasa. Just like I am a sannyasi. Sannyasi mean I have got my family, I have got my wife, children, grandchildren in India, but I have no connection with them. I live alone.
Interviewer: Could I ask for a spelling on those?
Prabhupada: Sannya... Yes, brahmacari: b-r-a-h-m-a-c-h-a-r-y, this is brahmacari. Then grhastha: g-r-i-h-a-s-t-h-a, grhastha. H-a-s-t-h-a, grhastha. G-r-i-h-a-s-t-h-a. Is that clear? Grhastha. Then vanaprastha: v-a-n-a-p-r-a-s-t-h-a, vanaprastha. Then sannyasi: s-n-n-y-a-s-i, sannyasi. Four divisions. These four divisions, and there are other four orders of social system. That is according to work, division according to work and quality. Just like the brahmanas, b-r-a-h-m-a-i-n-s, brahmanas. Brahmanas means the most intelligent class of the society. The ksatriyas, k-s-h-a-t-r-y-a-s, ksatriyas. Ksatriyas means persons who are interested in politics, in the management of the country, political affairs. They are called ksatriyas. Similarly, there is the vaisyas, v-a-i-s-y-a-s. Vaisyas means the mercantile, productive class. Those who are engaged in producing grains or trade, milk, and in industry. Of course, industry, artisans, they are called, artists, sudras. Anyway, any person engaged in producing for the needs of the society, they are called vaisyas. And the worker class is called sudra. So according to Vedic system, these are eight divisions. Unless the human society is divided into these eight divisions in terms of material and spiritual progress of life, that is not accepted as human society. Interviewer: Have they encountered any problems in, like out on the Hollywood Boulevard? Police action or telling them to move or...?
Prabhupada: Yes. Only that depends on the whims of the police. Sometimes they say, "You are blocking our roads." Sometimes, "Oh, you are doing nice." So that depends on their temperament.
Interviewer: How about from the crowd?
Prabhupada: Crowd, of course, whenever there is crowd, it is natural--police do not like it. So we don't create crowd. But generally, people, out of inquisitiveness they gather together and see how they are chanting. They are sympathetic. They contribute. They purchase our books and literature. The people, public is sympathetic. The police are also sympathetic. They don't object when we go at night, but during busy hours, they object. So one of our students was arrested by the police. So he was taken to the court, and I gave them $315 for what is called? Bail. But he was not convicted. He was immediately liberated, and now our money was returned. So it is not a problem.
Interviewer: Were there any followers before you came to this country?

Prabhupada: No. In this country, of this Krsna consciousness movement, there was none. It is the first time. I have introduced. But in India it is very, very old, since the advent of Krsna, and at least since last five thousand years. So Krsna is very popular in India. In every home, Krsna is worshiped, and there are many millions of temples of Krsna in India and followers also. Followers means almost all Hindus are followers of Krsna. They read this Bhagavad-gita. So I have recently published Bhagavad-gita As It Is. It is published by Macmillan Company, and this book is very nicely being received. It is being reviewed by several papers. I have got many others books. They are being gradually introduced. Perhaps you have seen in our counter. We have got books, magazines, calendar, and other literatures. So it is a very scientific movement. It is not a sentiment, bogus hoax. Anyone who wants to understand this movement philosophically, scientifically, they will be very much satisfied with this. The idea is that any religious movement without philosophical basis, it is simply sentiment or fanaticism. And philosophy without idea of God is simply mental speculation. Therefore religious principles combined with philosophy, that is perfect. So the younger section become attracted to this movement because we are giving some religious principle based on philosophy.
Interviewer: About how many followers would you say there are in the United States?
Prabhupada: Initiated members, there are about one hundred or little more, but sympathizers, admirers, there are many. Those who come, those who contribute, take sympathy, they help, and in that way there are many followers. But actually initiated members, there are about a little more than one hundred.
Interviewer: What is the significance of... Right after the chanting, everyone bows, and that I don't understand, what they're doing.
Prabhupada: Yes. That is offering respect. The whole, our Krsna consciousness movement, is to ask people to surrender to God. They have rebelled against God. Somebody says, "There is no God." Somebody says that "I am God." These nonsense things are to be eradicated from human society. So they should be trained to submit. So the submission is symbolized by bowing down: "Yes, you are great; I am humble." This should be taught. Otherwise, whimsically somebody is thinking that "I am God." They do not know what is God. It is most foolish proposal if somebody claims that he is God. He is dog. We very much hate this proposal, when a man claims that he is God. It is most blasphemous.
Interviewer: Have you... Did you... Well, you've only been over here about four years. But have there been dropouts, out of the movement, of the hundred that were initiated?
Prabhupada: They are doing nicely. They are making progress. They are understanding the philosophy. They are working for it. Now I am the only man who came from India, and still, I am one. I have no... There are many Indians, but I have no Indian follower here. Of course, in India we have got. That's a different thing. But these, all these American boys, they are cooperating with me. That means they are taking this movement very seriously. We have got two great papers, magazines, already, Back to Godhead. One is published from New York, and the other is published from Montreal. (break) In French language. Montreal it is published in French language, and they are well received. Recently I have received one letter from my disciple, Janardana. He is Janus Dambergs, M.A., he is the editor of that paper. He is a very good scholar in French language. His wife is also good scholar, Muna. She is also very good scholar in French language. So they are publishing, and the magazine is well received by the French-speaking people there. And we have contemplation to publish the same magazine in German language also from Germany.
Interviewer: I was talking to one the other day, and he said his name was Tamul.
Prabhupada: Tamala, yes. Tamala Krsna.
Interviewer: Tamala? And he was from Manhattan. Now, I assume when you join, do you assume a name? Do you change your name?
Prabhupada: Yes, when one is initiated, I give him a name which means remembrance of Krsna.
Interviewer: Is it necessary to know of the Indian language when you join? Because I noticed that when your... Prabhupada: This is not Indian name. This is Sanskrit name.
Interviewer: It's what?
Prabhupada: Sanskrit. Sanskrit is a language which is mother of all languages. Sanskrit, S-a-n-s-k-r-i-t, Sanskrit language. So this is the original language of this..., not only of this planet. In other planets also, this language is spoken. So the names are in Sanskrit. They do not belong to any community or any section. It is universal. We have no information. Just like this word, Krsna. It is universally known: "all-attractive." The exact English translation is "all-attractive." So there cannot be any proper nomenclature for God than this "all-attractive." Unless God is all-attractive, how He can be God? This is the perfect nomenclature. Similarly, anything Sanskritically named, that is all perfect. Yes.
Interviewer: I think that's all the questions I had. I can't think of any more. Let me think. (end)

CHANT AND BE HAPPY!

Japa is silent repetition of a mantra on japa beads. Kirtan is congregational or loud chanting, many times utilizing cartals (small hand cymbals), harmonium (indian portable organ), or mridanga (double headed indian drum). In the "Brihanaradiya Purana" it is said, in this age of Kali yuga, when people in general are slow in spiritual realization and always disturbed by various material anxieties, the best means for God consciousness "Krishna consciousness" is to chant the holy name of the Lord. Throughout the Vedic scriptures such as, Caitanya Caritamrita, Srimad Bhagavatam, Brahma Samhita, Bhagavad Gita, etc. the power of Krishna's name and the chanting of his name is emphasized. Some may chant "Rama" and some chant "Krishna", but the "Maha Mantra" or "great chant" is especially prescribed. This ancient mantra also known to many as the "Hare Krishna" mantra has been chanted in India in loud kirtans in which hundreds of thousands of people took part at one time. To chant japa on prayer beads you will need to acquire some from your nearest Hare Krishna temple, some indian stores, or Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. These beads are from India and are carved from a sacred tree called "Tulsi". You should NEVER let them touch the ground and if possible, please get a "japa bag". This is a cloth bag which is used to carry your beads in. There are 108 beads on a strand of "japa" beads. The "Krishna bead" is the large bead with a "tassle" on it. Start on a bead beside the "Krishna bead". Please don't ever chant on the "Krishna" bead. or cross over it! Use your RIGHT hand and hold the first bead between your THUMB and your LONGEST finger and chant the "Pancha-tattva Maha mantra" first. This mantra is: "jaya Sri Krishna Caitanya prabhu Nityananda Sri Advaita Gadadhara Srivasadi Gaura bhakta vrinda". Do this only once to start each round. Next do the "Maha Mantra" [Hare pronounced huh-ray, Krishna pronounced Krish-na, Rama prounounced rah-ma] "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare" while fingering the first bead. Move to the next bead and chant it again and do the same on all of the other beads. One round would be 108 times. The first round you are chanting "clockwise". The second round is back "counter clockwise" etc.. So to do one round you chanted the "Pancha-tattva Maha mantra" just once at the beginning of a round, but the Hare Krishna "Maha mantra" was chanted 108 times, or once on each bead. Please remember to always pronounce the words clearly and again DON'T CHANT ON, OR CROSS OVER the "Krishna" bead. This is the very large bead with the tassle on it. When you have chanted "one round" you will end up on the other side of the "Krishna" bead. If you wish to chant a second round, you say the "Pancha-tattva Maha mantra" once start chanting the "Maha Mantra" back on each bead toward the bead you originally started from. Each round = chanting the mantra 108 times. Proceed at your own pace and strive to build on it. Sixteen rounds a day is an ideal goal to work towards! The Maha Mantra is an ancient Vedic mantra aimed at addressing God in a personal way. It is considered to be the most powerful mantra to achieve God consciousness "Krishna Consciousness" in this age of Kali yuga. It is a prayer to ask for God's protection and guidance and to engage us in love and devotion. It it nice to meditate on pictures, or "archa vigraha" forms of Srimati Radharani and Krishna while you chant. God accepts your love and offering through either medium. The first book of major importance that you should get is "Bhagavad Gita". The translation by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is perfectly accurate and Lord Krishna's message is very clear. If possible try to get the edition with "Sanskrit" verses as this is nicer and you will find that you can learn the verses in both English and Sanskrit. In Honor of Sulocana Prabhuby Padmapani das Posted on February 9, 2007 in 'Chakra'

I've been following the discussions about Sulocana Prabhu's murder online, and I have to admit that it's caused me a lot of pain. Back in 1980/'81, I was traveling through London from the Middle East and met Sulocana Prabhu in the brahmacari room at the Soho St. temple. He seemed like a nice enough fellow. I remember seeing the famous photo in BTG where he is on the L.A. altar, offering arotika to his beloved Deities Sri Sri Rukmini Dwarkadisa. He told me that he had been Their pujari for a number of years. Sulocana also showed me a collection of his Srila Prabhupada, Lord Caitanya and Radha-Krishna pendants that he designed and sold to devotees throughout the movement. We hit it off and Tribhuvannatha Prabhu liked him too. I met him in London a few times and even lent him 50 pounds, although I never really expected or wanted it back. At the time, we just had a lot of laughs in the brahmacari room and then time passed and I never heard about him again until his untimely demise. A sad story indeed, because whatever he may have said or done that was disagreeable to others, he was still a Prabhupada man, and he didn't deserve to be murdered. What happened is appalling and tugs at the heartstrings. He is a disciple of Srila Prabhupada, who dedicated many years to Prahupada's service. Therefore, I would like to humbly suggest that those involved please consider some form of practical restitution. Where is his ex-wife and surviving child or children? Shouldn't they receive some type of remuneration for all the grief they must have suffered? Also, would it not be befitting that in an effort to make amends, there should be a memorial built in his honor, say in New Vrindavan or somewhere else befitting? This would show the world and generations to come that the devotees feel regret and pain for the wrongs done and that his death will not go unnoticed or forgotten. After all, if one dies for one's belief or principles, that death is heroic. Lastly, I would humbly ask the devotees to say a prayer for Sulocana Prabhu. He was not evil. I didn't know him personally that well, but his faith and love for Srila Prabhupada was obvious, and that will never go in vain. He is a person and not just a name or statistic. He is our Godbrother. And to those involved, a sincere prayer or prayers to Srila Prabhupada, our lord and master, for forgiveness and further direction in this regard would also be most desirable and efficacious, I'm sure. I hope this helps in some small way because my heart goes out to Sulocana Prabhu and his family, and I also believe that actions of this sort will go a long way to benefit those directly involved. Let's have more compassion and heal the wounds. Then maybe, just maybe, Krishna and Prabhupada will forgive. Thank you very much for your kind consideration. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Having a unique heritage thats consciously recorded to abt 5000 years is not a simple thing, the rising commercialization,and Americanization's should be on its parallel path keeping in mind that there wont be a simple scratch to our belief. People often say that belief dosent need and prof but sanathanadhrama is not on the basis of the above theory instead its strong rooms rest up on the concreted scientific proof.

I find daily proof of the increasing & continuing wrong being done to the millions by our false de-Indianizing
education. We seem to have come to think that no one can hope to be like a Bose unless he knows English.
I cannot
conceive a grosser superstition than this. No Japanese feels so helpless as we seem to do.... The medium
of instruction should be alerted at once, and at any cost, the provincial languages being given
their rightful place. I would prefer temporary chaos in higher education to the criminal waste that is daily
accumulating. Education through a foreign Language entails a certain degree of strain, and our boys have
to pay dearly
for it. To a large extent, they lose the capacity of shouldering any other burden afterwards., for they become
a useless lot who are weak of body, without any zest for work and imitators of the West. They have little
interest in original research or deep thinking, and the qualities of courage, perseverance. bravery and
fearlessness are lacking. That is why we are unable to make new plans or carry our projects to meet our
problems. In case we make them to fail to implement them. A few who do show promise usually die young.....
.. We, the English educated people alone are unable to assess the great loss that this factor has caused.
Some idea of its immensity would be had if we could estimate how little we have influenced the general
mass of our people. The school must be an extension of home there must be concordance between
the impressions
which a child gathers at home and at school, if the best results are to be obtained. Education through
the medium of strange tongue breaks the concordance which should exist. Those who breaks this
relationship are enemies of the people even though their motives may be honest. To be a voluntary
victim of this system of education is as good as the betrayal of our duty towards our mothers. The harm
done by this alien type of education does not stop here; it goes much further . It has produced a gulf
between the educated classes and the masses. The people look on us as beings apart from them. It
is my considered opinion that English education in the manner it has been given has emasculated
the English educated Indian, it has put a severe strain upon the Indian students' nervous energy and has
made of us imitators. The process of displacing the vernaculars has been one of the saddest
chapters in the British connection. Ram Mohan Rai would have been a greater reformer, and Lokmanya
Tilak would have been a greater scholar, if they had not to start with the handicap of having to think in
English and transmit their thoughts chiefly in English. Their effect on their own people, marvelous as
it was, would have been greater if they would have been brought under a less unnatural system.
No dought they both gained from their knowledge of the rich treasures of English literature.
But these should have been accessible to them through their own vernaculars. No country can become
a nation by producing a race of imitators. English is today studied because of its commercial and so
called political value. Our boys think and
rightly in the present circumstances, that without English they cannot get Government service. Girls are
taught English as a passport to marriage. I know several instances of women wanting to learn English
so that they may be able to talk in English. I know families in which English is made a mother tongue.
Hundreds of
youth believe that without the Knowledge of English. freedom of India is practically impossible. The canker
has so eaten into the society that in many cases the only meaning of education is Knowledge of English.
All these are for me signs of our slavery and degradation. It is unbearable to me that the vernaculars
should
be crushed and starved as they have been. I cannot tolerate the idea of parents writing to their children, or
husbands writing to their wives, not in their own vernaculars but in English.

The foreign medium has caused brains fag, put an undue strain upon the nerves of our children, made
them
crammers and imitators, unfitted them for original work and thought, and disabled them for filtrating
their learning to the family or the masses. The foreign medium has made our children practically
foreigners in their own
lands. It is the greatest tragedy of the existing system. The foreign medium has prevented the growth of our
vernaculars. If I had the powers of a despot, I would today stop the tuitions of our boys and girls through
a foreign
medium and require all the teachers and professors on pain of dismissal to introduce the change forthwith.
I would not wait for the preparation of Text books. They will follow the change. It is an evil that need a
summary remedy. Among the many evils of foreign rule, this blighting imposition of a foreign medium
upon the youth of the country
will be counted by history as one of the greatest. It has sapped the energy of the nation, it has estranged
them for the masses, it has made education unnecessarily expensive. If this process is still persisted in,
it bids fair to
rob the nation of its soul. The sooner, therefore educated India shakes itself free from the hypnotic spell of the
foreign medium, the better it would be for them and the people.

Basic education links the children, whether of cities or the villages, to all that is best and lasting in India. Is not education the art of drawing out full manhood of the children under training? Literacy in itself is no education. Literacy is not the end of education nor even the beginning. Literacy education should follow the education of the hand-the one gift that visibly distinguishes man from beast. Real education has to draw out the best from the boys and girls to be educated. True education must correspond to the surrounding circumstances or it is not a healthy growth. What is really needed to make democracy function is not knowledge of facts, but right education. National education to be truly national must reflect the national condition for the time being. The function of Nayee-Talim is not to teach an occupation, but through it to develop the whole man. I believe that religious education must be the sole concern of religious associations. By education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in the child and man-body, mind and spirit. By spiritual training I mean education of the heart. Experience gained in two schools under my control has taught me that punishment does not purify,
if anything, it hardens children. I consider writing as a fine art. We kill it by imposing the alphabet on little children and making it the
beginning of learning. I do regard spinning and weaving as the necessary part of any national system of education. The aim of university education should be to turn out true servants of the people who will live and die for the country's freedom. A balanced intellect presupposes a harmonious growth of body, mind and soul. Love requires that true education should be easily accessible to all and should be of use to every villager in this daily life. The notion of education through handicrafts rises from the contemplation of truth and love permeating
life's activities. The fees that you pay do not cover even a fraction of the amount that is spent on your education from the public exchanger. Persistent questioning and healthy inquisitiveness are the first requisite for acquiring learning of any kind. If we want to impart education best suited to the needs of the villagers, we should take the Vidyapith to
the villages. In a democratic scheme, money invested in the promotion of learning gives a tenfold return to the people even as a seed sown in good soil returns a luxuriant crop. All education in a country has got to be demonstrably in promotion of the progress of the country in which it is given. The schools and colleges are really a factory for turning out clerks for Government. The canker has so eaten into the society that in many cases the only meaning of education is a knowledge of English. The emphasis laid on the principle of spending every minute of one's life usefully is the best education for citizenship.

when we were at ashok's dad's place in vaikom, ashok's cousin just picked these off a tree for us. they were sweet and refreshing, except we had to check for ants before eating them.

Why in the world people get angry pretty fast Nowadays?
Well this question has been wondering in my mind for a pretty long time. Here is what i think, People intodays world
is too much exposed to evils and thus the level of anxiety haven't got any other sought of an exit of unleashing
out of the mind. Well its said in the Bhagavath Gita where Krishna says that from the most topmost point of this
material world to the lower levels of the material world the component of miseries literally filled more than that
of the space occupied by the perpetual time.

And thus we can clearly see that all the negative questions that a living being should avoid my surrendering
to the supreme god head is not avoided and instead its awakened my the lust of the mind like a kid urging
toward a thing without properly understanding.
You know due to some or the other reason, i find it quite a weird thing to meet
or talk to people who always see things in a negative manner.
Well i cant hardly group them under the category of prejudice, Because these people are beyond that group of
class. Again this is the question that scares me most , What sought of a behavioral pattern is to be adopted
to secure a rap out with these Maniac? (To be conti...)

Thrissur Pooram (updated-wed'16'apr)
I had to virtually beg to
my mom and dad to allow me to go for the pooram since the last time i went and met up with a terrible
incident since the elephants just ran like Mr.Mad Man Borat' During the Pooram at Sri Mula Stanam
about to entre the temple. Man i cant even picture the incident now because it gives me shivers like hell!
I lost a couple of stuff which includes my mobile, camera, watch, specs, sandals and my wallet ,not to mention
the injuries that i had. But thankfully due to Lords Grace i can only say that it was a close call, I am thank full
indeed since i slipped out just with a couple of bruises and a sprained arm.
So anyways i took my stuff and packed for the pooram at about 11:15 today(Apr 16) and had my way in to the
thrissur swaraj round on a classic tuk tuk (The three wheel cart which gives you a rollercoster kinda experience).
The site was preety much the same as it use to be with a lot of people, all kinds of people, Cows, Dogs, lots of
elephants about to rampage the place, lots of tourists mostly from madras, Bangalore and couple of people
from Russia, middle east, And mostly from France, Australia, And th US. A nd again more people and
of course the whole place is filled with Hot Mushroom cake kinda looking Elephant dung.

The moment i reached their i went straight for the miniature pooram which had already gained momentum, And has gathered a hell lot of crowd mostly people who are high on their legs.
I always prefer to go alone to see sights such as pooram and all since it would give us more freedom and would
provide more possibility to intrigue my my mind in ways never possible if we are gong with others.

Its took some time for me to cope up with the temperature over there and just for th same had to drink a lot of
orange juice just to calm my throat. And thats when i saw a couple of my old buddies and my friend vishnu who
has a unique kinda character wich is difficult for a average iq person to figure out.
So all of us just wandered around the pooram since i was done taking photos since the Batt got down.

Speaking of which the pooram was truly awesome as for the past years except the last year.

Keep the mobile down.
8 ) On the PC ( or Laptop) open your browser, enter any address ,
press ENTER and…….WAIT
9) After a few seconds the page will start to load and you have the

(NO OF SMS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL 2 HATE FOR BSNL AND HOW EARLY U WNAN GET UR GPRS ACTIVATED) this is also free both on post and pre!!
4) U WILL GET CONFIRMATION IN BOTH CASES AND MSG TELLS U 2 GET SETTINGS FROM 9400024365, THE NO OF CC!!
HERE AT MY PLACE I CAN DIAL 9419024365 ALSO!

LOOK, WHAT I HAVE WRIITEN ABV IS METHOD by which i got activated my "G" service !!! without fillin any form or such and without any money drain!!
may be since it bypasses the formal way of registeration, that is why this trick is working !!!!!!!!!!!!
U may also Try thisfirst open ur msg window and type LIVE and send it to 2567 so that after 5 min u get the setting of Airtel Live or if u have already no need for this procedure.
now then open that setting and copy all the settings from it and create one access point manually which has all the settings like Airtel Live has.
now only one change will be there and it would be in access point name which is "Airtelmms.com" instead of originally "Airtelgprs.com".
ok u've done it just active that setting and access free airtel gprs on ur phone.

Bad mothering
(ANI): Bad mothering has a worse effect on children than bad fathering, says a new study.The Australian study shows that mothers who exhibit "toxic" behaviours - from being cold
and indifferent to being abusive, manipulative or over-controlling - are far more likely to
warp their children's outlook on life than fathers with similar behaviour."Mothers have a really powerful effect on the way their kids view the world and themselves, probably because kids spend more time with their mothers, especially
in the crucial early years," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Wayne Warburton, a research fellow at Macquarie University's Children and Families Research Centre,
as saying.To reach the conclusion, the expert asked 441 university students to fill out detailed
questionnaires on the parenting styles of their mothers and fathers, and on their own
patterns of thinking.He asked them to recall 72 parenting behaviours, including "making a child feel
ashamed", being unloving or rejecting, and frequently telling the child they were stupid or would fail.He also asked questions designed to uncover destructive thinking patterns in the
students, such as being "clingy" out of a fear of being abandoned.The expert found that young adults were two-thirds as likely to develop unhelpful
patterns of thinking if the toxic parenting they had experienced came from their father
rather than their mother.If a range of poor parenting behaviours existed, they tended to be found in the same
parent, the study found.Just over 22 per cent of the mothers and 14 per cent of the fathers were classified as
toxic. (ANI)
